RiskAware for Physicians
Overview
Certain elements of risk management are classic: relationships, communication, and the environment of care. All are covered here. This course also offers a blueprint for implementing a risk management program in the medical office, going beyond the “What?” of risk management, to address the next critical question, “How?”
Objectives
Upon completion of this course, a physician should be able to:
1. Discuss the role of communication in risk management. 2. Deal effectively with angry patients. 3. Distinguish between the process and event models of informed consent. 4. Identify the characteristics of a defensible medical record. 5. Understand how managed care can affect liability. 6. Establish a risk management program in the medical office.
Target Audience
This course is designed for physicians who want practical ways to limit their liability, improve relationships with patients and enhance patient safety.
Methodology
This is a self-study course consisting of text and CME test. Physicians should read the course content, answer the test questions and submit the answers for scoring. Those who complete the course with a score of 80 percent or higher will earn a maximum of 6 AMA PRA Category 1 creditsTM.
